Product Information Sheet Contents:
Product SummarySingle crystal turbine blade and vane airfoils have extensively replace equiaxed and DS components in turbine engines. This activity is stimulated by the increased temperature/stress capability and superior thermal and cyclic fatigue properties typically achieved with single crystal components. Single crystal airfoils help achieve improved turbine efficiency and performance without sacrificing durability and can lower life cycle costs.
Engineering CharacteristicsCMSX-2® is a single crystal alloy development of the Cannon Muskegon Corporation which achieves an attractive balance of necessary properties. It was the first single crystal alloy developed to have a combination of good single crystal castability, a wide solution heat treatment "window, " phase stability and excellent oxidation properties. CMSX-3® alloy originally developed for Garrett, is CMSX-2 alloy with a 0.1% Hf addition. Both alloys have essentially the same properties, however a slightly lower solution temperature for CMSX-3 alloy is employed. CMSX-2 and CMSX-3 alloys are production status materials. Many 800 lb. (3630 kg) V-3 furnace heats have been melted to date and 15 years of experience with CMSX-2 and CMSX-3 alloys -- vis-á-vis, alloy melting, single crystal casting [fifteen (15) different casting processes/sources used], solution heat treatment, mechanical and environmental property response and turbine engine experience -- support the following alloy listed below.
ApplicationsNumerous very successful turbine applications for CMSX-2 and CMSX-3 are in effect worldwide.
